The Story
From the Corporate World to the Cutting Floor
In 2010, Ralph Valadez left the corporate rat race to do something that actually mattered — keeping the tools that professionals depend on every single day in peak condition.
Since then, The Sharper Edge has become the go-to mobile sharpening service for hair salons, pet groomers, and medical facilities across Central Texas. When your livelihood depends on a sharp blade, you need someone you can trust — not someone who just runs your shears through a grinder.
Ralph doesn't do that. He never has.
The Training
Trained at the Source
Ralph received specialized sharpening training directly from Jason Pintel, owner of the Sungold Group — a master sharpener who studied at the Japanese factories where professional shears are made.
That's not a certificate from a weekend seminar. That's knowledge passed down from the people who built the shears in the first place.
Ralph is certified in the HAMAGURI technique — a convex-edge sharpening method used on Japanese shears that requires skill, patience, and the right tools. No grinders. Ever.
